Shopping

The best places to shop in Cyprus, including handmade gifts, icons, paintings and antique furniture
Not a lot of genuine, homegrown, Cypriot handicrafts remain. Among basketry products, the hand-woven, multicoloured tsésti which adorn numerous taverna walls are likely to make it home in one piece (possibly with airline oversize charges), though etched gourds – kolótzia – with their designs painted or burned on will need protection. Recommended is a Cypriot hanging ‘mouse mat’ – a round, reed-woven contraption suspended from the ceiling from three cords, on sale in the Ktíma Paphos market, traditionally used to keep bread and other foods safe from rodents. I have found them also excellent for storing winter squashes.
